MIPS, MACRA, PQRS Quick Guide
Navigating the vast array of mental and behavioral health acronyms can be quite challenging. However, understanding these acronyms is crucial for effective communication and collaboration among professionals and individuals seeking support. By familiarizing ourselves with these acronyms, we can promote clarity, empathy, and understanding when discussing mental and behavioral health issues and adhering to guidelines set forth. Here, we explain the definition and essential information about each of them in the MIPS MACRA PQRS quick guide.
While acronyms provide a useful shorthand, it is essential to go beyond the surface-level understanding they offer. Mental and behavioral health acronyms should prompt us to delve deeper into the complexities of each one.
Meaningful Use
As part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA), the federal government launched the HITECH program, which provided stimulus incentive funds for demonstrating the Meaningful Use of certified EHR (electronic health records). Under this program, Eligible Professionals (EPs) may have qualified for up to $44,000+ in incentive funds.
MIPS / PQRS / MACRA
In 2017, the MIPS program brought 3 pre-existing programs together: Meaningful Use (MU), the Physician Quality Reporting System (PQRS), and the Physician Value-based Payment Modifier System. These are under the umbrella of MACRA QPP: Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act Quality Payment Program. Click here for program details.
